Obituary for William “Billy” Ralph Courtney

William 'Billy' Courtney

November 27, 1956 – April 1, 2025

William “Billy” Ralph Courtney was born on Nov. 27, 1956, in Bath, Maine, to Barbara and Bill Courtney. He was a loving brother to Brenda Pannell, Chris, and Steve.

Billy loved motorcycles, fishing, flip flops, and his loyal dog, “Jazzy,” and was affectionately likened to Chuck Norris. Family gatherings held a special place in his heart. “He loved having Christmas parties—the smiles during those parties were always the best,” his daughter, April Dorvault, fondly recalls.

His unforgettable smile and welcoming nature left a lasting impression on everyone he met. “He always greeted you with a warm smile and hug, and he was there whenever his kids or friends needed him,” his son, John, shared.

Billy owned several laundromats and worked at Roadway Trucking until retiring around 2005. For the next two decades, he spent his days camping and generously lending his hands to family and friends on numerous projects.

“My dad taught me to never be afraid to chase your dreams,” his son, Tim, said. “From delivering newspapers as a kid, to owning laundromats, a hotdog stand, and a doughnut shop—then exploring coin collecting and later day trading stocks—he showed me the importance of always learning and going after what you want in life.”

Billy passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on April 1, 2025, after bravely battling cancer. He is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara, and survived by his father, Bill; siblings Brenda, Chris (Sharon), and Steve; his children, Tim (Jennifer), John (Kristen), and April (Nick); along with eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Billy’s laughter and easygoing spirit reminded us all to cherish life’s simplest pleasures and the love of family and friends.

A celebration of Billy's life will be held on April 12, 2025.View Details
